Services For Veterinarians

Like most veterinarians I believe that the human animal bond is a very special relationship.   As in most relationships there can be ups and downs.   Hopefully the ups far out number the downs but that is not always the case.   When a pet is exhibiting behavioral problems the relationship that was once so special may become strained.   If the behavioral problem is severe enough, the bond may be completely broken.   As a veterinarian I have seen this happen on several occasions.   It is a heartbreaking experience and one that may be prevented.

Behavior counseling is the key to not only treating behavioral problems but also preventing them. The question then becomes, how can you incorporate behavior counseling into your practice.

My services for veterinary practices include:

Referral in-home behavior counseling
  • The owner contacts me privately and I perform a behavior consultation in their home.
In-house behavior counseling
  • Owner must return history form prior to consult
  • Pet and owner must be present
  • If any medical diagnostics are indicated they should be performed prior to consult (eg. UA for any urinary problem)
  • Consults are held at your facility and are to be 60-90 minutes long

Reasons for adding behavior counseling to your practice
  • Attract new clients
    • Clients are now seeking more complete health care.   This includes behavior medicine.
  • Bond clients to your practice
    • Create puppies that pull to get into the clinic, not to get out
  • Raise well behaved patients
    • Patients that allow handling are easier to examine and will have more diagnostic options
  • Increase life expectancy of pets
    • Pets that are well behaved will retain ownership longer
    • Most practices lose 3% of their clients to behavior problems every year
